š” Plantar Fasciitis and Menopause: What You Need to Know
Plantar fasciitis is more common in women during perimenopause and menopause, largely due to hormonal fluctuations, weight gain, and age-related changes in foot structure. Here's why:
Hormonal Changes:
As estrogen levels decline during perimenopause and menopause, connective tissues like the plantar fascia lose elasticity. This makes them more vulnerable to strain and injury.
Weight Gain:
Many women experience weight gain during this stage of life, which adds extra pressure on the feetāespecially the plantar fasciaāraising the risk of inflammation and pain.
Age-Related Changes:
Aging can bring about structural changes in the feet, including reduced heel fat padding and muscle atrophy. These changes decrease shock absorption and increase susceptibility to plantar fasciitis.
Muscle Atrophy:
Loss of muscle mass is common during menopause and can weaken the muscles that support the foot arch, further contributing to plantar fascia strain.
If youāre dealing with plantar fasciitis, one of the most effective ways to find relief is through targeted stretching and strengthening. Gently loosening the plantar fascia helps prevent tears, while building up the surrounding muscles reduces strain on the ligament and eases inflammation.

Thank you for this post. I have experienced plantar fasciitis for a couple years. I think mind started with playing pickleball on a hard court. I am happy to say that now I no longer wake up every morning with foot pain first thing as my feet hit the floor. I think somewhere along the line when I was busy trying to get fitter my leg muscles got stronger. Even though I am not currently suffering the way I used to , I am so happy that this series will help to strengthen my feet. I will incorporate these moves into my hooping because walking pain free is a privilege I love . Hurray for showing us that we can age with a plan and not just watch our body fall apart. My plan is to do these foot exercises in the evening when I'm low energy and watching tv and can literally feel my butt going to sleep because I've been sitting so long. I tried the rocking exercises and it was doable. Thanks to you and your Minka for showing us the way.
Itās amazing to hear how your commitment to getting fitter has brought you such powerful relief from paināwhat a triumph! Getting fitter overall brings lots of solutions and wellness. Imagine what you'll feel like if you sprinkle in some targeted exercises šŖ
