Oxygenate your brain while having fun & getting fit!
A fun new CARDIO HOOPING series based on progressive overload to boost cardiovascular fitness:
We start off gently with the basics to get your heart & entire cardiovascular system in the mood... and as we progress we go harder & see how far we can push ourselves & how fit we can get 🫀
It was really menopause research that sparked my interest in cognitive function, brain fog, vascular dementia, and Alzheimer's prevention. Neglecting and avoiding responsibility can easily lead to problems over the years. But we have so much power—we can take action and achieve phenomenal results! I may not know exactly how many calories you'll burn or how quickly you'll get a six-pack by sweating with me, but I can promise you'll torch calories. More importantly, you'll positively impact your brain, heart, blood vessels, blood pressure, and lungs.
Eating brain-healthy foods is just one piece of the puzzle. If we don’t use our brains, they will naturally decline. Hoop tricks, for example, are technical, complex, and stimulate the brain. Plus, they’re highly cardiovascular, which means they oxygenate the brain! 🧠
It's like eating protein—you can consume it all day, but it won't build lean muscle unless you pair it with resistance exercise. Similarly, you can follow any version of the Mediterranean or Galveston diet, but without stimulating your brain, you won’t experience a miraculous cognitive boost. Improvement requires a bit of elbow grease—effort is the name of the game. The harder we work, the luckier we get. 😉
There's a wealth of research and articles on this topic. You can dive deep if you like, but this article ⬇️ is just one way to get inspired and take action!
Then about food...
I grow a lot of beetroot because I eat a lot of beetroot 🤣 when it is about beetroot I am clearly competitive 🤪 a bit like the Vitaly the Tiger in Madagascar 3 🤪 it's all about the Borscht 🤣
No need to start eating only beetroot! I just would like to sometimes change the focus. Often people worry about eating too much carbs or calories or fats... but if you are physically and mentally active, for performance, you need good nutrition. I would love to shift the focus on all the things we should be eating to thrive, instead of focusing on all the naughty things we shouldn't eat. If you are full of the good stuff, you do not even feel tempted to eat the bad stuff. I paste some links below, too - you see... it is not just me who says we should eat it...
In my "What I Eat" series, I mentioned the word "inflammation" so often you might have gotten tired of hearing it. But there are so many pro-inflammatory factors and endocrine disruptors out there that can lead to the accumulation of visceral fat and negatively impact our quality of life. That's why I shared in the series that I drink herbal teas made from plants I forage to reduce inflammation. My daughter jokingly calls them "Mummy's bog water" 🤣. One of the plants I wild-harvest and drink is golden rod.
It's crucial to correctly identify plants for safety, so I’m not suggesting you head out into the wild to graze carelessly. However, planting a seed of curiosity can be powerful—maybe some of you will feel inspired to research or even sign up for a foraging walk in your area. There are so many good things out there, just waiting to be discovered. When the world drains us and makes us feel helpless and stressed, nature offers abundance, helping us feel deserving. We don’t have to be a size zero or wear designer shoes to be deserving. We all deserve love and care & wild plants.
Sometimes I giggle a little when I’m out foraging for my "bog water" ingredients. Yes, plants have medicinal properties, but I think the most healing part of foraging is resting our eyes on nature, calming our breathing, filling our lungs with fresh air, and simply feeling loved and cared for, trusting that everything will be okay. Sure, I could buy all my "bog water" ingredients, but then I’d miss out on the walk in nature and the quiet it brings. So if you don’t trust yourself with plant identification, don’t worry—just start by observing & going for walks as a start, not picking.
Golden Rod is in season here and in many other parts of the world. Go out, see if you can find some, and maybe do a hoop walk while admiring the plants 🌱.
