When and Where

The course is online so you can learn anywhere you like as long as you have access to the internet.

These are pre-recorded edited sessions so you start at a time and date that is most convenient to You and you progress at your own pace. There is no time limit, you have full life time access to the course if you purchase it. If you access it through the Hooping Studio subscription: you have full access as long as you are a member of the Studio.

Who

The tutorials of moves start off with the absolute basics so if you are completely new to poi and / or hooping, you will get guided through the modules and learn easily even if you have never done any poi or hooping before! Seriously!

If you are not that new to hooping or poi you will gain structure and a better understanding of poi hoop dance as well as chisel your moves and make them feel and look better, flow nicer.

Perfect for teachers and educators: a fun and inexpensive way to introduce play and movement into your sessions which can help improve coordination and mobility and cognitive skills.

Costs

You may choose to purchase this course to keep. That way it is a one off payment and you get to enjoy the entire course with life time access. Unlimited replays.

You may also access the entire course as part of your Hooping Studio subscription. That way you get the same amount of content, unlimited replay but for the duration of your subscription. So as long as you remain a member of the Hooping Studio: you have full access. When you cancel your subscription, you no longer have access to the content.

How long does it take to get good at this?

Everybody is different. Some have a background in baton twirling or juggling or gymnastics from a young age, they seem to learn faster. I certainly did not have any of these benefits but I still could learn even though I took longer than most.

What I recommend is that you spend about 7 hours of practice time for every hour of video you watch. So basically you just need to repeat until it is no longer difficult and messy. Move on to the next module when you feel confident about the ones you completed. Put some happy music on and play and time will fly as you keep banging out the repetitions. Enjoy the journey, this is not a race. Celebrate the lightbulb moments and notice how lovely it feels when you are making progress and it gives you a sense of achievement. It just gets easier and easier and the more you do the quicker you learn. The harder we work, the luckier we get… but it is so much fun in the process! Chase your flow experiences! Ride them and let them help you switch the world off for you so you can be present in the moment and just focus on yourself for a change! Make yourself the centre of your attention and enjoy your growth!

Need

Preferably twins - same size and weight but if there is a little difference you will be ok.

I am using small lightweight toyshop hoops mostly throughout the course. The diameter of these are the length of my arms. They are naked with no tapes of any kind.
You can use any small or large hoops though and can use naked or taped hoops.

My recommendation:
Use and try all that you have. Try all your hoops available and use what feels best. BUT:
It is easier to learn the moves and transitions with a smaller hoop because you can manipulate them and manoeuvre them easier. They fit in a smaller space so you will be able to play in tiny spaces. They also don’t damage furniture, etc.
Once you can do the moves confidently with your little hoops, then it is a great idea to try with bigger ones. Bigger hoops will get you fitter and increase the workout and make your shoulders stronger, too. Bigger hoops you will be able to spin on your body, too so eventually you will be able to perform all your on-body and off-body moves without having to change hoops. These are just recommendations, obviously you use what you like.

Content

The sessions always have a warm up to prepare your body and mind for the challenges. You get taken through the easier moves first with some conditioning exercises to help your body understand it more and to achieve better flexibility or strength.

You will be not only getting through tutorials but you will have your practice time included, too. I am a firm believer that just giving you instructions of what you need to do is not going to help you achieve you much so I am going to make you repeat moves as part of "workouts" and "flows".

Along your learning journey you will also come across some mindfulness exercises to help you remain enthusiastic and passionate about your progress. You will be constantly encouraged to learn, grow, evolve, get creative, brave and use your shiny new skills to build phenomenal confidence.

At the same time you will feel like a playful child and a seductive superstar, an athlete and a problem solving mastermind with a positive logical solution for every problem.
