I do not have enough fingers & toes in Latvia to count how many times I got asked if one can lose weight hula hooping while just standing. Are tricks really necessary?
First of all: standing & just spinning a hoop around the waist will get boring after a while. It is not just mentally not stimulating but your body adapts & you reach a plateau. It is not just hooping that sucks! All workouts & exercises are like that! Your body gets fitter & after a while it is no longer an effort. That is when you can choose that you are happy with what you've achieved & to maintain it: you carry on doing the same!

You want to get fitter, change dress sizes.... then it is insanity to keep doing the same & expect different results... it is not even my quote...
